James graduated from UTS with a Bachelor of Science in Nanotechnology and went on to complete an Honours year at the same university. During which he received a scholarship from the Sydney Quantum Academy, where he completed coursework, and participated in an industry placement. In 2025, he began his PhD at UTS and continued his research on the creation of quantum emitters.
